The Municipality of Montalto Dora is located in a natural context of considerable value, the area known as the Morainic Amphitheater of Ivrea (now AMI), a natural amphitheater, created and modeled by the Balteo glacier millions of years ago.
The work of the ice has transformed the whole area as we see it today, full of hills and valleys that can be traveled throughout the year and with historical, naturalistic and geological features of the highest level.
The area known as the "Area of the 5 lakes" fits into this context, two of which, Lago Pistono and Lago Nero, present in the Montaltese territory.
The itinerary proposed here does not have its own "tracing" but is located at the center of several hiking trails that intertwine with each other at different points, thus giving the possibility to lengthen or shorten the route according to the desire of the walkers, weather conditions, the level of fatigue, etc.
