A demanding itinerary for the distance and change in altitude. Our departure point is the Oulx railway station where we embark on the first few kilometres along a mainly flat forest path; in Beaulard the more demanding climb begins, the first part of which is on asphalt, leading us towards the Passo della Mulattiera. Once in Puys we find ourselves on the network of military dirt tracks dating back to the Second World War: the itinerary winds along the southern slope of the Cresta Seba, with a consistently incredible view over the rocky walls of Punta Charrà, at the bottom of which you can clearly see the soldiers’ barracks marking final destination of the climb. Once we reach the pass, we cross what remains of a network of interconnected military installations along the ridge that leads to the Punta Mulattiera and start our descent to Col des Acles. The journey continues in the valley of Rio Guiaud on a very pleasant path - with some more technical areas - to then join the Sentiero Balcone above the Bardonecchia village, which can only be accessed by the service tracks leading to the winter ski resorts. Those who wish to can also head by train from Bardonecchia - equipped to transport bikes - all the way back to Oulx station.
