Sanctuary
Through the ash and birch woods to the left of Colleretto, a steeply winding road leads to Colle Crosiglietto, a panoramic hillock on which stands the Sanctuary of Santa Elisabetta.
The area has a splendid panoramic position: from its belvedere, the view sweeps over a vast portion of the Canavese area and the Turin plain.
In 1707, halfway up the slopes of Mount Quinzeina (1211 m) on the then-named hill of Crosilietto (today Santa Elisabetta), a small shrine was built due to a series of miracles well described in a document of the time. In 1796, the present Sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of the Visitation was built next to it. It houses a beautiful icon depicting the ’Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Elizabeth’, painted by the well-known painter Defendente Peraracino of Celino in Valsesia who died in 1810.
Several votive chapels stand out in the lush surrounding vegetation (throughout the Sacred Valley area there are many), once the scene of sacred representations full of charm.
